Friends of Hospice

Friends of Hospice

Friends of Hospice started in 1981 when Pat Chargin, retired nurse and early Hospice of the Foothills board member, recognized the need to raise funds in support of the Hospice of the Foothills. Recognizing the need for intensive fundraising, Pat took action by placing an ad in the local paper and mailing out a plea for participation in a fundraising auxiliary to all of her friends.

In 1981, the result of her efforts was the formation of Friends of Hospice. The first regular meeting was held in 1982 and the formation of the first event “Breakfast in the Park” was organized and put on in 1983. Tree of Love was first held in 1988 and continues today as two events Tree of Love and Celebration of Life. Pennies for Hospice was launched in 1990 followed by “Jail and Bail”, Arts and Flowers in 1992, Caring Friends in 1992, and Caring Bears in 1993. Our first newsletter was published in 1995. Butterfly Gardens was added in 2001. Heroes for Hospice and Pave the Way were introduced in 2008.

Friends of Hospice fundraising events provide support for the programs and services of Hospice of the Foothills. For more information on any of the friend’s activities, call Friends of Hospice at 530.274.5121 or email us at hospice@hofo.com.
