Volunteers are what allow Hospice of the Foothills to offer the range and quality of services our community expects and deserves. There are several ways to be a Hospice volunteer. You can be an In Home Patient Support Volunteer (click here for more information), a Professional Services Volunteer (click here), or you can volunteer at one of our three Gift and Thrift stores (click here). If you would like to join Friends of Hospice, a Hospice of the Foothills auxiliary that provides fund raising support for Hospice, click here for more information.

In Home Patient Support Volunteers,
Professional Services Volunteers and
Office/Clerical Volunteers
Our In Home Patient Support Volunteers perform many tasks for Hospice patients and their families. One of the most important things a volunteer can offer a patient is time: time to sit with them, listen to their stories and share their lives. Time to offer caregivers a break from the difficult tasks of caring for a dying loved one. Volunteers can read to the patient, prepare light meals, feed the patient, assist with bedside tasks, perform light housekeeping and run errands.
We have volunteers who focus on providing support to the family after the patient dies and helping them through the grieving process.
Volunteers can also offer their professional services to help patients; hairdressers, beauticians and massage therapists are always welcome into our volunteer team.
We are always looking for office/clerical volunteers to help our staff with clerical tasks, word processing, mailings and other night office work.
Becoming a Hospice volunteer is a significant commitment. We ask that you volunteer for a minimum of one year and dedicated an average of 4 hours per week to In Patient Support. We request you attend our training classes, participate in weekly Patient Support team meetings and a come to at least two monthly continuing education sessions per year.
Hospice will provide training and support for you in your role of In Home Patient Support Volunteer. Our training consists of three 7 hour sessions normally held in the same week, i.e., Monday, Wednesday and Friday. These sessions are held in the Spring and again in the Fall. Training provides information about the hospice philosophy and concept, guidelines and practical skills and gives you the confidence to stay with a terminally ill patient while their caregiver takes a break. After training, you are assigned to work with patients and their families within a geographical area convenient for you. Our Volunteer Coordinator is always available to you for support, encouragement, guidance.
Every volunteer brings a unique combination of interests, skills and talents to our program.
