A Home for Hospice
Hospice of the Foothills has embarked on an exciting new project: building a Hospice Home in Western Nevada County.

Rendering of New Facility
Hospice Home has been the vision of the Hospice Board of directors and a dream of the staff for many years. Every day Hospice provides care to patients who would like to end their journey at home with their families, but cannot because their home doesn’t provide an appropriate environment.
• Stairs threaten safe mobility
• The bedroom may be out of sight and hearing
• Narrow doorways and halls impede the progress of a wheel chair
• If the home is in a remote area, response to immediate needs or emergencies may be delayed
Caregivers may not have the time or skills to provide the necessary care. They exhaust themselves with worry, lack of sleep, and the stress of providing an ideal environment for the ones they love.
Today in Nevada County the options for the terminally ill who cannot be cared for at home are primarily limited to nursing homes or hospitalization. While there are a number of excellent facilities providing care in our County, they often present another spectrum of concerns including the real fear of isolation from loved ones and the loss of autonomy.
The time has come to establish a comprehensive Hospice campus in Nevada County that will address the growing need for residential care for the terminally ill who cannot be cared for at home.
The Capital Campaign to build a Home for Hospice needs your help and donations. Our fund raising is on going and our generous community has already contributed over $2,217,000 to the Hospice Campus Project.
Hospice Campus
Comprehensive compassionate care will be the focus of the new Hospice campus. The Hospice Home will include 12 spacious suites with private baths in which residents can surround themselves with the comforts of home and the people they love. Family and friends an visit as often as they like and can even spend the night. Common areas such as the dining room, activities room and porches will encourage social interaction among staff, residents, family members and friends. A family sitting room and meditation room is envisioned for more private, introspective occasions. At Hospice Home residents can retain dignity and self determination and receive the personalized attention they deserve.
An adjacent In Home Services Center will house Hospice’s traditional in home care services, bereavement and volunteer programs including Friends of Hospice, and staff and business offices. The close proximity of the services center to the residence will benefit patients and staff by assuring more immediate response to medical emergencies, closer monitoring of residents’ status, quality control in critical areas such as diet, hygiene, and pain management, and more consistent interaction among those responsible for residents' quality of life.
Siteline Architecture has completed the plans and Sierra Foothills Construction has the building well under way. The building is expected to be completed in late 2008.

Fund Raising
Donors through out the community including Hospice Board and staff, the campaign leadership, and numerous friends, families, and community organizations have contributed over $2.2 Million. Our 2004, 2005 and 2006 Gala fund raisers "Raising the Roof for Hospice" were key in raising awareness of the Campaign to Build a Home for Hospice and helped us generate over $160,000 in donations. Many local business have made significant contributions to this project and Phil and Ellen Lester and Kenny Ranch Inc. have very generously donated the land for our new home. It is very beautiful, pastoral and private.
